Chief Investment Officer
Presidio Capital Investment employs a 4-point investment approach that focuses on buying cheap, optimizing, protecting against disaster and maintaining discipline. The firm's investment approach emphasizes asset class and strategy diversification and employs specific risk management techniques designed to produce a high-quality, durable portfolio that limits susceptibility and vulnerability to any single economic environment. The Presidio Multi-Strategy Fund (PMSFX) is a long/short, multi-strategy mutual fund. In managing the fund, Presidio Capital emphasizes the importance and need for liquidity in portfolios and seeks to reduce the dangers of leverage and market tail events (volatility spikes). The fund seeks to prudently and sensibly manage money across a highly-diversified portfolio of assets and strategies. The fund invests across the global markets and employs a rigorous portfolio construction process referred to as 'S4 Layering.' The fund's objective is to build a durable portfolio that can do well in different market environments and guard against severe market shocks. The fund is designed with a diversified structure and targeted low correlation to traditional assets such as stocks and bonds. In addition, it is designed to be a complementary addition to an investors overall investment program, such as a liquid alternative investment strategy. The fund's targeted strategy exposures are: (1) structural- 20% to 30% (2) Smoothing - 40% to 60% (3) Stylistic - 10% to 20% and (4) Safety 0% to 10%. Its targeted asset class exposures are: (1) Global Equities - 20% to 50% (2) Global Fixed-Income - 20% to 50% (3) Global Real Assets - 10% to 30% and (4) Other - 0% to 10%.S4 Layering refers to the layering of 4 strategy exposures: Structural, Smoothing, Stylistic and Safety. The Structural layer is designed to capture common risk premia. This layer of the portfolio seeks to add value by dynamically under- and over-weighting key global assets such as global equities, global credits, global duration, global currencies and commodities. The Smoothing layer seeks to provide the portfolio with uncorrelated alpha sources that are designed to be generally independent of general stock market moves. This typically involves a long/short approach in which Presidio Capital goes long a particular asset while simultaneously shorting another asset. This process is intended to reduce market risk and leave only alpha to offer a volatility dampening effect to the overall portfolio. The Stylistic layer focuses on several types of non-core trades such as size, style, momentum, industry and sector. Presidio Capital may invest in companies or funds that have characteristics of these non-core risk factors. The Safety layer employs specific risk management strategiesto partially or fully hedge certain risks in the portfolio including equity, credit and interest rate risks. This layer is designed to help reduce the impact of severe market stresses and to dynamically alter the overall risk profile of the portfolio. Strategies include purchasing and selling liquid derivatives (typically exchange-traded options and futures) and a short book.
