Biography

Xiao-Wei has been with the Packard Foundation since 2004. She leads the Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering, a program established in 1988 to support the nation’s most promising early-career professors to pursue their science and engineering research. From unraveling the mysteries of aging, to studying emerging virus strains for rapid detection and prevention, to better understanding the physics of insect flight, Packard Fellows are encouraged to think big and look at complex issues with a fresh perspective and follow new ideas wherever they lead. Over the past 30+years, the Packard Foundation has awarded nearly $450 million in grants to support over 630 scientists and engineers. In her role, Xiao-Wei oversees the nomination, selection and award process, manages the annual Packard Fellows Meeting, and is actively engaged with the inspiring community of current and alumni Packard Fellows, as well as the Fellowship Advisory Panel.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Xiao-Wei worked at the Council on Foundations, where she researched emerging issues in corporate philanthropy and developed educational programs for corporate grantmaking executives. She also served as a senior research associate at the Corporate Executive Board in Washington DC. Xiao-Wei is a graduate of The College of William and Mary and Stanford University. When not working with the Fellows, she can be found making music with her family, leading Cub Scout adventures or in pursuit of good food and hiking trails in the Bay area.
