The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the home of six schools (including one of two LSU medical schools), 12 Centers of Excellence, and two patient care clinics. Due to Hurricane Katrina, the School of Dentistry was temporarily located in Baton Rouge but has since returned to its campus in New Orleans. It resumed operations in New Orleans in September 2007. As a state school, it mostly accepts residents of the state of Louisiana with the exception of combined M.D./Ph.D. students and also children of alumni. As of the 2012 application cycle, up to 40 out-of-state applicants will be accepted.

In 2010, U.S. News & World Report ranked Dillard among the nation’s Top 10 HBCUs, based on comprehensive undergraduate studies. In addition to serving as the university’s health care center, the University of Mississippi Medical Center is a premier research institution. UMMC’s vast academics are administered through the following divisions: * Graduate School * School of Dentistry * School of Medicine * School of Nursing * School of Health Related Professions (SHRP) The School of Medicine and School of Dentistry each offer one program, while the School of Nursing offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in Nursing. This includes the RN-MSN bridge program, which has several different tracks leading to different careers. UMMC’s School of Health Related Professions features the widest range of programs. At SHRP, you can study everything from Clinical Laboratory Sciences to Physical Therapy. There’s also a “2 + U” online program, designed for associate’s degree holders who want to continue their education. The Medical Center’s School of Graduate Studies awards MS and PhD degrees in a variety of subjects, including Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Neuroscience. Additionally, the Graduate School features a combined MD/PhD. This program is ideal for those interested in research and academia.
