Biography

Woodhaven Community
Vernell Sturns, Woodhaven resident. Vernell received his under graduate degree from Prairie View A & M University and his master degree from the University of Kansas. He served for more than twenty-five years in the public sector with the City of Fort Worth as Deputy City Manager and City Manager and with the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport as Deputy Director and Executive Director. While at the D/FW Airport, Vernell was credited with updating the original airport master plan which identified the need for additional runaways and terminals to meet the future growth demands.

Vernell has owned several businesses in the private sector, they include a Title Company, and beauty supply stores and currently he serves as Owner/Managing Partner of a company manages Municipal Landfills.

Vernell has served on the Board of Directors of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, Tarrant County United Way, Texas Christian University and Jarvis College.

Prairie View A & M is a well-established university with a reputation for high quality academics. Prairie View A&M University is an HBCU. Located in Prairie View, TX, Prairie View is part of the Texas A & M University system. Prairie View offers bachelor's degrees in more than 45 academic disiplines as well as over 35 master's programs and four doctoral programs. Prairie View is especially well-known for its programs in engineering and business which received top rankings from U.S. News and World Report. Its nursing and education programs, two of its oldest, also come with a reputation for excellence. In addition, at one of Prairie View's nine schools one may pursue degrees in agriculture, architecture, and the arts and sciences.
