They refer to their passive strategies as 'intelligent indexing'. The firm invests globally across major asset classes and actively exercises voting rights. Each fund manager monitors companies, economic conditions and markets, and meets with companies to evaluate management strength and growth prospects. Historically a passive investment manager which specialized in index funds, LGIM branched into actively managed equity strategies, liability-driven investing, structured products and alternative investments. They manage a range of specialist hedge funds invested in UK small-caps, Japanese equity and global high-yield credit. Their UK Smaller Companies Alpha Fund is a long/short equity strategy following a bottom-up investment approach. The portfolio is broadly market-neutral with minimal hedging through index futures.
