The American Red Cross Southwestern NJ Chapter became a unified Chapter in November, 2014. The former Burlington County Chapter was congressionally chartered in 1916, with Camden and Gloucester County both congressionally chartered in 1917. All three chapters held significant roles in the history of the American Red Cross, serving members of the military and their families since World War I, providing nursing care and humanitarian services to those affected by major epidemics on the home front, responding to major disasters and numerous single family fires and collecting and distributing blood and blood products for hospital patients and others needing blood to survive. The three chapters also trained thousands of persons over the years in First Aid, CPR, Water Safety and HIV Prevention. The Southwestern chapter covers Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties and is part of the American Red Cross, South Jersey Region headquartered in Tinton Falls.
