Biography

Scott Dalrymple, Ph.D.

17th president of Columbia College

Dr. Scott Dalrymple became the 17th president of Columbia College on May 1, 2014. He holds a Ph.D. in English and an M.B.A. from the University at Buffalo, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English from the State University of New York College at Geneseo. Under his leadership the college has added three academic schools, completed a number of building projects, and enjoyed record levels of fundraising.

From 2010 to 2014, Dalrymple served as dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Excelsior College in Albany, New York, overseeing undergraduate and graduate programs in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. He also served as founding dean of the college’s School of Public Service.

Previously Dalrymple served as chair and tenured associate professor of business administration at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he taught courses in strategic management, global business, marketing, and fiction writing. During the 2005-06 academic year he was named Faculty Scholar-in-Residence at the college. Prior to that he served as Beech Professor of Business Administration, department chair, and MBA program director at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He has also worked in the corporate world.

Dalrymple has published several peer-reviewed articles and books in the fields of American literature and management, as well as pieces of short fiction. His essays have appeared in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Inside Higher Ed, Trusteeship, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. He is a board member of the Missouri Innovation Center, and chair of the Presidential Advisory Committee to the Missouri Department of Higher Education.

He and his wife Tina are both first-generation college graduates. They have five children and three grandchildren.
