Biography

Paul C. Demakis
was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, in 1953. He received his Bachelor’s degree
from Harvard College in 1975 and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1978. Before
becoming a state Representative, Demakis was a member of the Democratic Committee for Ward 5 (Boston), General Counsel for the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction from 1983 to 1984,
and tax counsel for the Appellate Tax Board (1984-1986 and 1993-1994) and a member from 1986 to 1993. Demakis represented the 8th Suffolk District as a Democrat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1995 to 2004. In 2003, the boundaries of the 8th Suffolk District changed to include portions of Cambridge including the MIT area, Cambridgeport, and East Cambridge. Demakis was on the Transportation, Government Relations, Judiciary, Local Affairs, Public Service, and Housing and Urban Development Committees. His legislative priorities were abortion rights and buffer zones for abortion clinics, Massachusetts Turnpike air rights, and domestic partnership.
