Patrick J. Trostle

Patrick J. Trostle is a partner in Moses & Singer's Business Reorganization, Bankruptcy, and Creditors' Rights group. He is the Chair of the High Yield, Distressed Debt, and Special Situations Fund Group.

Patrick has 25 years of experience in a wide variety of complex bankruptcy, restructuring, litigation, compliance, and transactional matters. He has represented debtors and official creditors’ committees in cross-border cases, as well as investment funds, derivatives counterparties, insurance companies, banks, multinational corporations, trustees, and examiners in some of the largest insolvency cases ever filed. His clients have included the court-appointed examiner in Lehman Brothers’ chapter 11 case, an ad hoc committee of RMBS holders in Ambac’s insurance insolvency proceeding, US noteholders in FSIA litigation against Anglo Irish Bank, the debtors in General Motors’ and Nextel International's respective chapter 11 cases, a repo counterparty in Orange County’s chapter 9 case, and the official creditors’ committee in NRG Energy’s chapter 11 case. He has served as appellate counsel in several bankruptcy cases before the US Supreme Court and as an expert on New York law in an Australian administration proceeding.

Mr. Trostle’s pro bono work has included leading a team of attorneys in a complex transaction that created the first grid-connected solar field in east Africa. The Financial Times honored the project in its North American Lawyers Innovative Lawyers 2015 Report, and The American Lawyer recognized Mr. Trostle’s work in its 2015 Global Legal Award for Citizenship.

Thomson Reuters has recognized Mr. Trostle annually as a New York Metro Super Lawyer since 2010. He has also been included in The Legal 500 US. He serves as the chair of the advisory board of the Institute of Transnational Commercial Law at Queen Mary University of London and on the advisory board of the Commercial Law Centre at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford.

Mr. Trostle graduated from Trinity College (CT) with honors in 1989. He holds a JD from Vermont Law School and also attended St. Hugh’s College, University of Oxford.

A member of the New York and Connecticut bars, Mr. Trostle is also is admitted to practice in various federal courts, including the US Supreme Court and the Southern District of New York.
