Biography

State Representative Patti Bellock is currently serving her eighth term in the Illinois General Assembly. Appointed Deputy Minority Leader in October 2013, her assignments include serving as Chief Budget Negotiator for the House Republicans, Minority Spokeswoman on the Human Services Appropriations Committee and a member of the Mass Transit and Labor and Commerce Committees. For many years she has been a community activist in education, juvenile justice, healthcare, developmental disabilities and mental health issues. She is also an advocate of tougher laws on domestic violence, terrorism, drug trafficking and sexual predators on the internet.

Her landbellock.jpgmark legislation –the Smart Act reforming the Illinois Medicaid system and bills requiring mental health parity, MRSA infection control, improving the Amber Alert system and strengthening child support in Illinois have been recognized on a national level. Last session, she co-sponsored legislation to create jobs in Illinois, repeal taxes on business, address the state's health care system and reform the Medicaid system. Recently she has worked on model legislation regarding school food allergy guides, a drug repository for low-income individuals and has hosted town hall meetings on Illinois pension and budget issues. She works closely with constituents and local officials to ensure their concerns are heard in Springfield.

Bellock has received state and national awards for her role in numerous community projects and serves on several local boards for groups addressing the issues of Taxes, Substance Abuse, Alzheimer's, Autism, Human Services, Mental Health, Multiple Sclerosis, Violence Prevention and the Arts. She was appointed to the National Health Care Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) in Washington D.C. She is presently serving as the Midwest Director for the national group, Women in Government and she chaired the Conference of Women Legislators in Springfield, a bi-partisan group of all women legislators.

The Illinois Manufacturer's Association rated Bellock among the top five legislators because of her consistency on business issues. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce also recognized Mrs. Bellock's support of state and local business by naming her a Champion of Free Enterprise. She has been named Legislator of the Year by over 20 associations and most recently by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. Her focus on women's issues earned her the honor of "Illinois Women Making a Difference" from the State Treasurer's office.

A native of River Forest, Mrs. Bellock graduated from Saint Norbert College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in History and American Government. She taught school in both Fairbanks, Alaska, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and served as vice president of a sports investment firm in the private sector. She and her family have lived in Hinsdale, Illinois for 40 years.

The Illinois House of Representatives is the lower house of the Illinois General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Illinois. The body was created by the first Illinois Constitution adopted in 1818. The House consists of 118 representatives elected from individual legislative districts for two-year terms with no limits; redistricted every 10 years, based on the 2010 U.S. census each representative represents approximately 108,734 people. The state legislature has the power to make laws and impeach judges. Lawmakers must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of the district in which they serve for at least two years.
