Biography

Michelle Byrd is co-president of Games for Change, an organization that catalyzes social impact through digital games. G4C serves as a convener (the 10th anniversary of the Games for Change Festival is June 17-19), executive producer (the PBS multi-platform project Half the Sky Movement is based on Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's best-seller) and curator (G4C showcases 100+ "games for change" on its site). As co-president, Byrd produces the annual Games for Change Festival and oversees many of its institutional partnerships, including collaborations with cultural and learning institutions such as the American Museum of Natural History, Tribeca Film Institute and Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop. Prior to G4C, she spent 12 years as executive director of the Independent Filmmaker Project, the oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers in the U.S. Byrd is a recipient of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Made in New York" Career Achievement Award for Film and Television.
