Senior Cyber Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Energy
Mike Smith came to the Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration (ISER) Division within DOE in March 2008 to establish and lead the newly created Global Initiatives Directorate (Directorate). In September 2012, Assistant Secretary Patricia Hoffman assigned Smith to become her Senior Cyber Policy Advisor. His current duties include leading and/or facilitating a wide range of Energy Sector cybersecurity initiatives across the department, the interagency and the National Security Staff. Smith led the Department’s participation as the Energy Sector-Specific Agency in the Integrated Task Force charged with implementing Executive Order 13636 and Presidential Policy Directive 21. Smith is also the Cybersecurity Risk Information Sharing Program (CRISP) Manager.

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is a Cabinet-level department of the United States government concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material.The Department is under the control and supervision of a United States Secretary of Energy, a political appointee of the President of the United States. The Energy Secretary is assisted in managing the Department by a United States Deputy Secretary of Energy, also appointed by the President, who assumes the duties of the Secretary in his absence.
