It was founded in 1824 by Stephen van Rensselaer and Amos Eaton for the "application of science to the common purposes of life" and is the oldest technological university in the English-speaking world.

The University of Delaware (UD) is a state-assisted, privately governed institution that was founded in 1743. In 1928, a year after establishing the College of Arts and Sciences, the institute once again changed its name to Youngstown College.
