Biography

State Senator L. Scott Frantz was elected to his third term in the State Senate in 2012. Senator Frantz represents the 36th Senate District, which includes the communities of Greenwich, New Canaan and Stamford.

Senator Frantz serves as Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus and Ranking Member of the General Assembly’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and Commerce Committee. In addition, Senator Frantz serves on the Legislative Management and Transportation committees.

As ranking member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, Senator Frantz oversees all matters relating to the state’s finances, fees and taxation. On the Commerce Committee, Senator Frantz continues to serve as the ranking senator and contributes to ongoing efforts to improve the state’s business environment and promote economic growth.

On the Transportation Committee, Senator Frantz advocates for improving public transportation, modernizing and expanding commuter rail lines, improving parking resources and keeping the state from diverting transportation funds from the special transportation fund account.

As a member of the Legislative Management Committee, Senator Frantz reviews the operations of the General Assembly, including matters such as working conditions and employee compensation.

Senator Frantz is a business entrepreneur with a long history of service and commitment to his community. Following his election to the General Assembly, Senator Frantz stepped down from his five‐year post as chair of the Connecticut Development Authority, as chair of the Board of Directors of Bradley International Airport, and as chair of the Connecticut Brownfields Redevelopment Authority. He continues to serve on the business advisory boards of AI Squared, Granite Ventures, and RSR Partners.

Senator Frantz has served on additional for‐profit business boards for more than 15 years. He also serves as a board member of several nonprofit and club organizations, including: Corporate Angel Network (Advisory); Connecticut Republican Finance Committee; Veteran’s Appreciation Council; Greenwich Country Day School; and Arch Street, the Greenwich Teen Center.

Senator Frantz has received a great deal of recognition for his civic and community work including the: Corporate Angel Award for providing transportation to cancer patients; Courage to Change Award from Greenwich Hospital in recognition of his work to establish the Arch Street Teen Center; Arch Street Champion for Teens Award in recognition for his work on Arch Street Teen Center and programs helping youth; Secretary of the State Public Service Award in recognition for service to the state as chairman of the Connecticut Development Authority and of Bradley International Airport; Community Leader Award from the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his efforts regarding the Arch Street Teen Center, Veteran’s Appreciation Council, Corporate Angel Network and Americares; Prescott Bush, Jr. Award for his efforts on behalf of the Republican Party; Liberty Bell Award from the Greenwich Bar Association in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the Veteran’s Appreciation Council; and the Good Citizenship Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution in recognition of his community efforts.

Senator Frantz lives in Riverside with his wife and their four children.
