Biography

Keith leads the development team (including biology, software, hardware, applications, chips, reagents and program management), and with the team, drives the advancement of the Berkeley Lights Platform and serves as the Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Berkeley Lights, Keith worked in the semiconductor equipment industry for 17 years at Teradyne and FormFactor. At Formfactor, he led the development of the Katana platform and the SmartMatrix and TouchMatrix architectures. Before that, he helped develop the Ultraflex interface and worked on a variety of other manipulator and interconnect challenges. He received his Ph.D., MS, and BS from MIT in Mechanical Engineering focused on Precision Machine Design and MEMS. While at MIT, Keith worked on various robotic systems including, RoboTuna, the 2.70 robot competition and participated in RoboCon in 1996 and 1997. He was one of the first employees at iRobot where he made a cement leveling robot and 6 legged walking robot. He holds 27 patents ranging from coffee makers to high performance electrical connectors to methods for manipulating single cells.
