LMA is the universal voice of the profession, a forum that brings together CMOs and entry-level specialists from firms of all sizes, consultants and vendors, lawyers, marketers from other professions, and marketing students to share their collective knowledge. Members at every stage in their career development benefit from their LMA participation because our broad array of programs and services can be tailored to their needs: Entry level members may attend a “boot camp” that introduces them to the profession, access templates and reports that they may use on-the-job and take advantage of frequent networking opportunities to grow their careers. Senior practitioners may receive special recognition in our Hall of Fame, access proprietary research studies and strengthen the profession through mentoring and training opportunities. Consultants, service providers and vendors may reach our members directly through advertising, chapter and national conference exhibits and participation in our exclusive online vendor directory. Lawyers, other professional service providers and the marketers who serve them and legal and marketing students may structure our professional development activities in ways that support their objectives.

Legal Aid of Western Missouri (Legal Aid) has provided free legal services to low-income people since 1964 to ensure equal access to justice for those without the ability to pay. Legal Aid's mission is improving the lives of those in need through quality legal assistance. Our staff fulfills this mission by representing low-income residents in civil matters in which the client's physical safety, their access to healthcare or housing or their ability to support themselves is at risk. Legal Aid provides free legal assistance to people who need it most and can afford it least; people who are elderly, have permanent disabilities, or are homeless, survivors of domestic abuse, families with children, the working poor, new immigrants and other vulnerable residents. With offices in downtown Kansas City, Joplin, St. Joseph, Warrensburg and a neighborhood office on Kansas City's westside, Legal Aid serves a 40-county area that covers a 23,370 square-mile territory where 281,000 people live in poverty. Legal Aid collaborates with other providers who serve individuals and families living in poverty to maximize resources available to address our clients' needs. In 2014, Legal Aid closed 5,541 civil cases with 54,423 corresponding hours of legal assistance. Private attorneys on our pro-bono panel resolved 11% of these cases. Most of the cases involved tenant and homeownership issues, domestic violence prevention, access to healthcare, appeals for public benefits, consumer matters, and protecting basic individual rights. Our assistance often represents the last hope for those who are living in poverty and have nowhere else to turn. As both awareness of our services and severity of the economic downturn grow, people depend on Legal Aid now more than ever. Unfortunately, due to limited funding, we are forced to turn away thousands of deserving clients who need our representation and no other organization in this region provides this assistance.
