Biography

K. Tsianina Lomawaima (Ph.D. 1987, Stanford University, Anthropology) is Professor in the School of Social Transformation, Arizona State University. Tribal ancestry is Muscogee (Creek Nation). Research as an Indigenous historian is rooted in the experiences of my father, Curtis Thorpe Carr (1918-2012) a survivor of Chilocco Indian Agricultural School. Research interests include the history of Indigenous education, schooling for Native Americans, federal Indian policy and practice, the construction of U.S. citizenship, and Native sovereignty.
