Biography

Justin Humphries, 28, is the Director of Player Development for the STAR EMBA Program. As a veteran professional baseball player he brings a powerful combination of experience as a professional athlete and an elite academic background. Due to his strong sports and academic background, he is uniquely able to relate to and help former and active professional athletes adjust to the vastly different lifestyle away from the sports arena.

Humphries, a well-traveled Texan who is a dual citizen of the United States and Australia, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Political Science Degree from Columbia University, overlapping his academic career with nine seasons of professional baseball. Drafted out of high school as a power-hitting catcher, Humphries was a Minor League All-Star at 20-years-of-age with the Astros in 2003 and was rated one of the top prospects in the club. An independent organization ranked him the No 10 hitter in all of the Minor Leagues. In 2006 he played for the Australian National Team in internationals against the national team of Taiwan and the Japanese League Champions. Two major injuries which required surgery– a damaged wrist cartilage and a torn ACL in his knee -- first curtailed and then ended his career.

A shrewd and forward thinking young man, Humphries paid his way through college with a substantial scholarship he negotiated from the Astros when he signed at 18 years of age out of Episcopal High School in Houston. He played baseball in the summer and in the off seasons he attended Wharton County Junior College in Texas, graduating with the Dean’s Award for the top graduating student, and then Columbia University.

Understanding both the responsibility to give back to his community and the power of political activism, Humphries serves on the founding board of the New York-based Concord51, a Political Action Committee targeting young professionals. He is on the Congressional Subcommittee of the PAC.

Humphries currently resides in New York City.
