Education
BA Degree

The University of the South is known familiarly as “Sewanee” by its students, faculty, staff and friends and offers an unmatched educational experience. The university remains purposefully small and dedicated to building a sense of community. All classes are taught by professors, not graduate teaching assistants, and close faculty-student interaction ensures that each student enjoys a rich and personal educational experience. It is not unusual for students and faculty members to work shoulder to shoulder on research projects and journal articles, to meet for coffee at a local eatery, or to serve together as members of the university orchestra, volunteer fire department, and other civic groups.

JD

Vanderbilt University campus in Nashville, Tennessee, the law school combines the advantages of a stimulating university community, a top-tier faculty, a small, carefully selected student body, and a vibrant, livable city. Known for offering a rigorous academic program in a collegial, supportive atmosphere, Vanderbilt Law School attracts law students and faculty seeking a first-rate academic institution that also affords an excellent quality of life. In 2002, the law school completed an extensive renovation and expansion project, and Vanderbilt now offers its students a state-of-the-art facility with wireless internet access throughout, situated on a park-like campus that is a national arboretum.

Parker Poe traces its roots back to 1884, when it was founded by Heriot Clarkson, later a Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. By 1990, the Firm (then known as Parker, Poe, Thompson, Bernstein, Gage & Preston) had grown to more than 65 lawyers, and had one of North Carolina's most sophisticated general corporate and business practices, as well as strong practices in the areas of litigation, the environment, tax law, real estate and lending. In 1990, the Firm merged with the 30-lawyer Raleigh firm of Adams, McCullough and Beard, which was founded in 1965 by Governor Terry Sanford and several other attorneys and which was recognized for its litigation, legislative and public finance practices. In 1992, Parker Poe established an office in Spartanburg, South Carolina to serve existing business clients and to take advantage of the fast-growing upstate South Carolina business region. In 1996, the Firm also opened an office in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, where it now conducts a general business and governmental relations practice. Parker Poe opened its third South Carolina office, in historic Charleston, in January 2004, which has more than doubled in size since its opening.

The court is composed of sixteen judges and is based at the Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is one of thirteen United States courts of appeals. Elena Kagan is the circuit justice for the Sixth Circuit.[1] William Howard Taft, the only person ever to serve as both President and Chief Justice of the United States, once served on the circuit. Four judges of the Sixth Circuit have been elevated to serve on the Supreme Court.
