Jorge A. Villegas

Jorge A.
Villegas is an accomplished professional with over
twenty-six years of progressively increased responsibility with the
Los Angeles Police Department. He is a successful principle-based
leader with a demonstrated commitment to a community-focused,
problem-solving policing style that builds trust, reduces crime,
demonstrates accountability, and maintains a highly motivated
workforce. He is proven leader with the ability to marshal and
direct resources from the community, outside agencies, and other
city departments to achieve challenging goals and objectives.

Villegas is a champion for community service and collaborative
relationship building. One of his many successes was as the
commanding officer of Mission Area, where he helped to create the
Sylmar Juvenile Task Force, a collaboration of residents,
government and nonprofit community organizations that were brought
together to provide educational, recreational and leadership
development opportunities for the youth in the Northeast San
Fernando Valley. As the Chief of the Valley, he oversaw a
substantial expansion of community collaborations and an increase
in community partnerships. He implemented a series of community
forums that reached out to underrepresented community groups.
Villegas also worked closely with the United Chamber of Commerce to
support public safety efforts in collaboration with the business
community. Chief Villegas is proud of his work as one of 15
members of the Steering Committee for San Fernando Valley Coalition
on Gangs, a multi-disciplinary partnership with the mission to
prevent and intervene in youth involvement with gangs. He also a
member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Blood
Services Southern California Region, where he contributes to the
annual Southern California Battle of the Badges blood drive
campaign.

Assistant Chief Villegas' internal successes have been in the
managerial refinement of systems and the fostering of quality
relationships. The blend of both management successes and
relationship-based leadership has led to many quality achievements
and the ability to clearly articulate the mission, vision and
values of the LAPD for its personnel. He has been the recipient of
numerous internal and community commendations, and he has been
awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation. He has been nominated for
the prestigious Armand Arabian Award for Public Service.

Assistant Chief Villegas holds a Master's Degree in Organizational
Management from Azusa Pacific University, as well as a Bachelors
Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne. He
is currently a graduate student at the Sol Price School of Public
Policy, University of Southern California (USC). He has also
received a certificate from Delinquency Control Institute, USC. He
has graduated from the FBI National Academy and the West Point
Leadership Development Program, where he also has been an
Instructor.

Chief Villegas is a member of the Police Executive Research Forum,
the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National
Academy Associates, the Latin American Law Enforcement Association,
the California Peace Officers' Association, and the Police Officers
Association of Los Angeles County. He is currently a member of the
Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Police Relief Association.
