Visa
John Phipps is Senior Director, Global Government Relations for Visa, Inc. He is responsible for coordinating Visa’s interactions with international governments and multilateral institutions on regulatory and policy issues. He is based in Washington, DC. Previously, he worked in Singapore at Visa’s Asia Pacific headquarters where he was responsible for Visa’s government relations and corporate relations activities in South and Southeast Asia.
Phipps has over twenty years of international business experience. Prior to joining Visa, he worked for IBM in Singapore as its Governmental Relations Executive responsible for policy and regulatory issues in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining IBM, he worked as Senior Director for the US-ASEAN Business Council where he led efforts by the US-Singapore FTA Business Coalition to win Congressional passage of the bilateral free trade agreement. He also worked for the US Chamber of Commerce as its Director for Asia Trade Policy helping to lead the US business communities’ efforts in opening markets and advocating for an expanded business presence in the Asia Pacific region. Phipps is a member of the Board of Directors of the US-ASEAN Business Council, the Board of Governors for the National Center for Asia Pacific Cooperation (APEC), the Board of Directors of the National Foreign Trade Council, and the Advisory Board for the US-Indonesia Society. He also served as Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
