To create better futures for children, families, and our community.About Us:Youth Services System, Inc. works with youth and families in the community, in schools, and in our emergency youth shelters-Samaritan House in Wheeling and Helinski Shelter in Moundsville, in our Youth Achievement Center, a Wheeling residential program for youth with intellectual delays or disabilities and other co-occurring emotional or behavior issues, in the Ronald C Mulholland Juvenile Center--West Virginia's only private, non profit juvenile detention and corrections center, and our Transitional Living Centers for youth 17-21 who are moving to adulthood from foster care or who are at risk of being homeless. These Transitional Living Centers are the Tuel Center in New Martinsville and the McCrary Center in Wheeling. We offer employment and training services, therapy, substance abuse treatment and help with other behavioral health issues. Our staff work with families to do comprehensive assessments that allow them to move forward with all available support that they may need. We offer in-home services to families and supervised visitation for families where the children have been placed out of the home. We work closely with other youth-serving organizations to provide effective services to youth and families. The Ohio County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition works to make our community one that supports youth to avoid alcohol and substance abuse and one that works on bullying and other issues that affect our youth.Since our founding in 1974, YSS has served over 25,000 youth and their families. Our emergency shelters are the only ones in West Virginia who care for runaway or homeless youth, rather than youth who are in state custody. Through this work with homeless youth and with the Continuum of Care for the Homeless, Youth Services System began opening our Central Office for the Winter Freeze Shelter in 2009 for homeless adults.
