Co-Founder at Meritage Group LP

Meritage Group utilizes two primary strategies in managing their private investment funds: fund-of-funds investing with external managers and direct investing in fundamental public and private equity, public and private credit, long and short. Meritage Group focuses its fundamental public equity trading activities primarily on listed US and non-US equities and may also invest in other public and non-public securities and financial instruments, including, but not limited to, exchange traded funds, commodity and financial futures and currencies and derivatives. It is presently anticipated that the majority of the Private Investment Funds' long/short investment portfolio will consist of publicly traded non-US and US equity securities with an expected holding period of over six months. Meritage Group's investment horizon with respect to other securities and futures is likely to be from one month to three years, but could be longer or shorter depending on the circumstances. The firm also pursues a principally long-focused equity strategy for certain of its private investment funds. Meritage Group's private equity direct investment strategy involves investments in and acquisition of, securities or assets of privately-held or publicly-traded companies and are likely to include minority investments and control stakes, opportunistic investments in public and private debt, equity, real estate, hybrid securities, options and warrants as well as participating in going private transactions. They expect to employ this strategy primarily in North America and Western Europe, but may make private equity investments in other regions as well.

The Foundation serves as the vehicle by which the Library, Museum and Foundation offices are constructed, and, in accordance with the statutory requirements outlined in the Presidential Libraries Act, by which the endowment necessary for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to operate the Library is created and funded. The Foundation anticipates negotiating a joint use agreement with NARA in the future that will outline the responsibilities of both the Foundation and the federal government. The Foundation, officially established as an operating, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in January of 2014, will both plan and develop the Project and engage in activities reflecting President Obama’s values and priorities throughout his career in public service: expanding economic opportunity, inspiring an ethic of American citizenship and promoting peace, justice and dignity throughout the world. The Project will be an anchor for economic development and help cultivate a strong relationship in the surrounding community. In addition to the Library and Museum, it will include an Institute that will enhance the pursuit of the President’s initiatives beyond 2017 and have local, regional and global impacts. The Foundation will raise private funds, convene partners who share the President’s goals and vision, serve as a repository of information and otherwise marshal resources to address present and future global and domestic challenges of interest to the President. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors and chaired by civic leader Martin Nesbitt.
