Biography

Jen is a long-time resident of the Lake Sunapee region and currently lives in Springfield, NH with her husband, Dana (Proctor class of '86), and her three children: Sage, '18; Ashley '21, and Camden '21. During vacations, she and her family spend time being active in the outdoors together and especially enjoy hiking with their yellow Lab, Bella. Jen attended the St. Paul's School Advanced Studies Program in Concord, NH in 1986 and graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School in Sutton, NH in 1987. In 1991, she graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Central American Culture and Society, having spent her senior fall living and studying in San Jose, Costa Rica through an Associated Colleges of the Midwest study abroad program.

After graduating from Colorado College, Jen embarked on her lengthy career in the field of education. She first worked as a paraprofessional in special education classes for learning disabled sixth graders at the Kearsarge Regional Middle School in New London, NH. She followed up this experience with a year-long apprenticeship as a sixth grade teacher at New Canaan Country School in Connecticut and then taught at Proctor as a learning specialist for one year. In subsequent years, she was an advisor, learning specialist, and sixth grade teacher at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, NH. During her tenure at Cardigan, she taught language arts, social studies, reading & study skills, and an elementary Spanish course. Desiring to enhance her own understanding of language-based learning difficulties and expand her tool kit as a classroom teacher and learning specialist, she enrolled in the M.Ed. program at Plymouth State University.

In 1998, she returned to Proctor as a full-time learning specialist, and in 2000, she completed her M.Ed. and NH K-12 Teacher Certification as a Reading and Writing Specialist. To advance her skills in the area of executive functioning/ADHD coaching, she completed a certificate program from the University of New Hampshire at Manchester in Coaching Children and Teens in June of 2009. Jen is currently in her eighth year as the Director of Learning Skills and looks forward to working closely with her fellow specialists to continue to offer Proctor students a top-notch learning support program. Believing that ongoing professional development is key to serving her students and colleagues effectively and keeping her well-apprised of changes in the field of learning and education, Jen reads a wide variety of professional publications and journals each year and regularly attends conferences, including the Harvard University Graduate School of Education's annual Learning Differences Conference, the Learning & the Brain Conference, as well as workshops offered by the Landmark School Outreach Program. Jen is also a member of NEALS, the Northeast Association of Learning Specialists, "the largest professional organization for Learning Specialists in New England."
