University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Missouri. MU is a major land-grant institution and Missouri's largest public research university. It is one of only 34 public universities, and the only public institution in Missouri, to be selected for membership in the Association of American Universities. MU offers more than 280 degree programs including more than 75 online degree options and is designated as comprehensive doctoral with medical/veterinary by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Distinction In 2003, the prestigious Carnegie Foundation named Rockhurst as one of 12 national leadership sites for the scholarship of teaching and learning. In 2006, Rockhurst was selected as one of 12 colleges and universities nationwide to lead an effort to improve teaching in higher education. And most recently, in 2010, the foundation recognized the University for the strength of its community outreach efforts by awarding Rockhurst its community engagement classification.
