Biography

Harold Moskowitz is a founding partner of the firm who, although retired, remains involved with the firm and its valued clients. During his legal career, Harold advised and counseled insurance carriers, insureds, brokers and reinsurers on all aspects of their business activities, with a focus on growth and expansion through the development of new coverage types and policy-writing approaches in addition to the identification of alternative risk vehicles. Harold also worked directly with a broad spectrum of companies, helping them to address their business and risk mitigation challenges.

Harold played a key role in making Wilson Elser the leading law firm it is today, with a national platform that enables the representation of both domestic and foreign insurance companies and other corporations doing business in the United States. Harold and other firm leaders successfully distinguished Wilson Elser by instituting and following a client service model that emphasizes in-person contact with clients, a thorough understanding of their business, and a high level of responsiveness in evaluating cases, setting reserves and writing reports. An esteemed mentor and role model who continues to regularly connect with attorneys throughout the firm, Harold is an important part of the heart, head and soul of Wilson Elser.

A distinguishing aspect of Harold’s practice was his strong advocacy of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). As changes in discovery rules led to abuses in the litigation process, Harold recognized that ADR is an important means of helping to mitigate the impact of litigation costs on the client’s bottom line. He formed a steering committee with clients and colleagues that established protocols for entering into non-binding settlement through mediation, setting a tone at the firm that encourages early case resolution.

Professional/Community Activities
Harold has published articles and lectured extensively on topics of interest to the insurance industry. He is a past chair of the UJA Federation, General Insurance Division, has been a UJA honoree and continues his involvement with the organization.

In 1979, CPR started this legacy by being the first to bring together Corporate Counsel and their firms to find ways to lower the cost of litigation. Since that time, CPR has changed the way the world resolves conflict by being the first to develop an ADR Pledge. Today, this Pledge obliges over 4,000 operating companies and 1,500 law firms to explore alternative dispute resolution options before pursuing litigation. CPR is once again challenging the way the world resolves conflict by introducing the 21st Century Corporate ADR Pledge. This new Pledge will systemically change the way global business and their leaders resolve complex commercial disputes. CPR’s membership comprises an elite group of ADR trailblazers, including executives and legal counsel from the world’s most successful companies and global law firms, government officials, retired judges, highly-experienced neutrals, and leading academics.
