Grier Carson is the Director of Library and Information Services at Lake Forest Academy. He has a bachelors degree in English and a masters degree in Library Science from Indiana University. Under his direction, the Library has focused on touch computing (iPads, touch-screen computer monitors, self checkout devices), developed a web-based research instruction initiative, and introduced graphic novel and videogame collections to the community. Mr. Carson also directs the electronic music program at LFA which includes the LFA Laptop Orchestra (the first high school laptop orchestra in the country) and various courses in electronic music production and composition. A serious composer of many years, he works in his own studio and lives off campus. He is married and has one child.

Lake Forest Academy! LFA is a school with a rich tradition. Founded in 1857, we are the product of a boys’ school opened in 1857 and a girls’ school, Ferry Hall, opened in 1869. Small classes, active and varied learning experiences, and a meaningful advisory system are all cherished aspects of our history. LFA is a boarding school that also admits day students. We bring together students of different backgrounds from all over the world. We provide educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Most of our teachers live on campus and embrace the opportunity to work with students in varied settings. Day students and boarding students alike benefit from a diverse student body, an educational program that continues into the evening and on weekends, and committed faculty members. LFA offers each student an enriching educational experience. We average 12 students in each class and provide an academic curriculum notable for both its depth and breadth. Students also take part in clubs, service-learning opportunities, athletics, and the performing arts. Through a broad range of experiences, LFA students gain the confidence, self-reliance, and empathy that will enable them to be thoughtful, contributing members of any community. LFA embraces change. The Campaign for LFA, the first comprehensive campaign in the school’s history, is providing the school with improved facilities and a larger endowment. We recently instituted a one-to-one iPad program, and we are renovating academic space and building a new science center, all with an eye to promoting collaborative, experiential, and interdisciplinary learning. LFA is a community with a rich history, a clear identity, and a commitment to ongoing improvement. We owe much to our predecessors as well as to current faculty and staff, students, parents, alumni, and trustees. It is a great pleasure and a great honor to be the Head of School at Lake Forest Academy during such a momentous period in its history.
