Mission: Inspire Science Learning for Life. Vision: Be the spark that ignites innovation! Purpose: Create prosperity in our community that enhances lives. Orlando Science Center (OSC) offers transformative experiences to children and adults of all ages, genders, races, ethnic origins, and abilities. We achieve this through a very broad and deep catalog of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEM + Arts) activities. Hands-on exhibits, digital National Geographic films, giant screen films and our many types of education programs merge immersion and interactivity to elicit emotional and social responses that engage visitors with the world and the people around them. Our programs build understanding of science/technology and help develop skills needed for success in school, work and life. In 2015, we celebrated 60 years of contributions to the scientific, educational, cultural, artistic and intellectual advancement of Central Florida and achieved a new high in attendance: 535,830 people, including 125,000 preK-12 students and 3,000 teachers. Designated as a Major Cultural Organization by the State of Florida and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, OSC ranks as the most popular museum in the region. Since founding, we have served over 12.2 million people, and more than 2.7 million students. Our facility earned LEED GOLD certification by the US Green Building Council and we model ""repurpose, reuse, and recycle"" policies. Ultimate goals are to increase OSC's ability to: meet educators' needs to strengthen science, math, and technology skill building, build students' interest and motivation toward further studies, answer economic leaders' needs for a STEM/STEAM-educated, more diverse workforce, keep pace with government leaders' needs for a more informed citizenry, satisfy families' needs for a safe, comfortable environment where they can enjoy educational activities together, andeliminate barriers to participation.
