Dr. Baker has been serving as the Director for the Food & Agribusiness Institute since 2000. He is also a professor in the Department of Management. He has taught at Santa Clara since 1988 after previous teaching appointments at New Mexico State and Purdue.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Business Management, his Master of Science in Agricultural Economics, and his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics all from Purdue University. His dissertation, The Goals and Performance of Grain Elevator Managers: A Laboratory Experiment, examined the relationship between the financial goals and performance of agribusiness firms.
In addition to his book, Introduction to Food and Agribusiness Management, Dr. Baker's research has been published in numerous journals including International Food and Agribusiness Management Review, Agribusiness: An International Journal, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Review of Agricultural Economics. Greg was the co-editor of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review, Volumes 2-4.
His research has explored consumer attitudes toward food safety, the relationship between strategic management and firm financial performance, managerial factors affecting the performance of computerized information systems in agribusinesses, and the identification of critical success factors for successful quality control management. Most recently, Dr. Baker's research has focused on childhood obesity and the food industry.
In 2009, Dr. Baker was named a Fellow for the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IAMA), the highest honor the organization bestows. He is a recipient of the Excellence in Research award from the Cooperative League of the USA. Greg has earned the Leavey School of Business Dean's Extraordinary Performance Award eight times, most recently in 2008. Additionally, in 2004 he was presented with President's Special Recognition Award, which honors faculty who set an example for students and colleagues as teaching scholars and whose recent work has advanced the mission of Santa Clara in significant ways.
In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Baker recently led 12 undergraduate business students on an immersion trip to Ghana. They spent ten days immersed in the culture and tradition of Ghana, including visits to an AIDS hospice, a school, a microfinance company, and a monkey sanctuary. They lived for three days in the village of Nkwantakese, and committed to raising money to build two additional homes for the community.

Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is the flagship university of the six-campus Purdue University system. Purdue was founded on May 6, 1869, as a land-grant university when the Indiana General Assembly, taking advantage of the Morrill Act, accepted a donation of land and money from Lafayette businessman John Purdue to establish a college of science, technology, and agriculture in his name. The first classes were held on September 16, 1874, with six instructors and 39 students. The university was founded with the gift of $150,000 from John Purdue, a Lafayette business leader and philanthropist, along with $50,000 from Tippecanoe County, and 150 acres (0.6 km²) of land from Lafayette residents in support of the project. In 1869, it was decided that the new school would be built near the city of Lafayette and established as Purdue University, in the name of the institution’s principal benefactor. The West Lafayette campus offers more than 200 majors for undergraduates, over 70 master’s and doctoral programs, and professional degrees in pharmacy and veterinary medicine. In addition, Purdue has 18 intercollegiate sports teams and more than 850 student organizations. Today, Purdue is a member of the Big Ten Conference. Purdue enrolls the second largest student body of any university in Indiana as well as the fourth largest international student population of any university in the United States.
