UCLA's primary purpose as a public research university is the creation, dissemination, preservation and application of knowledge for the betterment of our global society. To fulfill this mission, UCLA is committed to academic freedom in its fullest terms: We value open access to information, free and lively debate conducted with mutual respect for individuals, and freedom from intolerance. In all of our pursuits, we strive at once for excellence and diversity, recognizing that openness and inclusion produce true quality. These values underlie our three institutional responsibilities. Learning and teaching at UCLA are guided by the belief that undergraduate, graduate and professional school students and their teachers belong to a community of scholars. This community is dedicated to providing students with a foundational understanding of a broad range of disciplines followed by the opportunity for in-depth study in a chosen discipline. All members of the community are engaged together in discovering and advancing knowledge and practice. Learning occurs not only in the classroom but also through engagement in campus life and in communities and organizations beyond the university.

Career History

GSG Capital Advisors' seeks to identify undervalued assets and opportunities where expected return is very attractive in comparison to their calculation of risk. The firm researches and invests in many types of securities, including but not limited to: (1) Closed-End Funds (2) Small, Medium and Large-Cap stocks including US Developed Foreign Markets and Emerging Markets Equities (3) Taxable and Tax-Exempt Individual Bonds including Corporate and Municipal Bonds (4) Liquidation and Merger Securities (5) Master Limited Partnerships with emphasis on energy related trusts that offer high income and unique tax advantages and (6) Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs). GSG offers several investment portfolios, customized to meet the client's current and long-term investment objectives. The Legacy Equity Portfolio model includes stocks, bonds and cash/cash alternatives. It features closed-end mutual funds, individual stocks, special situation securities and other opportunistic investments. This is GSG's core equity management program.GSG's Concentrated Value Portfolio includes 15 to 20 individual stocks at any given time. The goal is to buy company stocks that they understand very deeply, and at prices that are cheap relative to their future earnings. Stocks are sold once they achieve prices that more fully reflect a fair value of their earning power. Strict buy and sell target prices are utilized. This portfolio contains companies of all sizes, and is sub-advised by one of their affiliated firms headquartered in La Jolla, California. The Large-Cap Growth Portfolio is highly diversified and contains stocks of companies in industries that are growing in today's and tomorrow's economy. Most are companies with little or no debt and have a history of many years of profitable growth. This portfolio is sub-advised by one of the firm's affiliated firms headquartered in Los Angeles. The firm's Equity Income Portfolio model includes primarily large company stocks which are paying dividends at a much higher rate than the overall stock market. These stocks currently pay dividends greater than 4% annually (more than twice as much as the current 'average' large company dividend).Their MLP Income Portfolio contains publicly-traded Master Limited Partnership (MLP) companies, mostly energy related, currently paying dividends of approximately 6% annually. Some portions of these dividends are tax-advantaged.GSG's Corporate Income Portfolio is a taxable bond portfolio model that includes individual corporate bonds of companies with lower credit ratings and higher yields compared to their Corporate Income model. They look for corporate bonds with higher yields which they feel are likely not to default.Their Municipal Income Portfolio is a federal and state tax-free (depending on the client's state of residence) bond portfolio model includes defensive individual municipal bond holdings to provide for current and future cash flow needs and preservation of capital.GSG Custom Asset Allocation approach combines some or all of the above investment types, to tailor an investment portfolio to meet the needs of any client.
