Biography

Gerald Gray is a psychotherapist who has been involved for over twenty years with survivors of war, torture, and exile by providing psychotherapy, or founding clinical treatment centers, or by founding legal centers to track and bring to justice human rights violators who have entered North America to hide in the refugee communities. He is forging a national system to find torturers and hold them accountable, involving intertwining projects in law, psychology, journalism, investigation, research, education and policy development. Using a network of universities, lawyers, and lobbyists, Mr.Gray is creating legal centers for torture survivors in both the U.S. and Canada. These centers produce research on torture, advocacy for an anti-impunity culture and legislation, and bring lawsuits to trial. From 2005 to 2008 he was an Ashoka fellow, working on issues of impunity. As current co-director of The Institute for Redress & Recovery at the School of Law at Santa Clara University, he is working on projects in Cambodia, The Hague, Canada, and the U.S. He sits on the boards of The Center for Justice & Accountability (where he was founding director), The Canadian Centre for International Justice, and the International Institute for Criminal Investigation (The Hague).
