Each model portfolio is designed to be consistent with a specific investment objective, ranging from preserving capital to maximizing growth. The portfolio objectives range from very conservative to more aggressive. To the extent a model emphasizes income and relative stability, it will focus on fixed-income investments. By contrast, as long-term growth becomes more of concern, the model portfolio will target a greater proportion of stocks. By using a combination of mutual funds and ETFs, Cape Cod Five is able to spread risk across hundreds of securities. While market conditions will result in the actual asset allocations varying to some degree from their targets, each portfolio is rebalanced regularly to ensure that the chosen risk and reward profile is maintained.
