Denise Hayes
Vice President for Student Affairs
Dr. Denise Hayes joined Claremont University Consortium in July 2009 and was named
Vice President for Student Affairs in January 2011. In that capacity, she has responsibility for
the Chaplains, Chicano Latino/Student Affairs, Black Student Affairs, Health Education
Outreach, and Student Health Services. Prior to her current appointment, she served as
Director of Student Health and Counseling Services for ?e Claremont Colleges.
An Indiana native, Dr. Hayes obtained her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from
Indiana University. Her doctoral research was on perceived support for college students who
are single parents.
A Counseling Psychologist, Dr. Hayes began her career in counseling and student health
in 1992. She served as Director of Counseling and Health Services at DePauw University,
Greencastle, IN from 1999–2009.
In addition to numerous presentations, Dr. Hayes has been a contributing author in the
Journal of College Student Psychotherapy and the Journal of Counseling and Development.
She has also been cited in the Wall Street Journal, Ebony magazine, the Indianapolis Star
and the San Antonio Express News. Her research interests include leadership development,
cultural competency student health and mental health providers, organizational consultation,
and wellness.
