Deb Snellen

Deb is passionate about working to increase the capabilities of Mizzou Advancement staff to shape the future of MU. Her areas of expertise include talent management, performance improvement, learning and development and organizational development. She leverages these strengths to provide strategic direction and facilitation of initiatives related to staff engagement and communication, strategic and workforce planning, job design, organizational structure and processes, talent acquisition, learning and development, performance management and improvement, career paths, succession planning and recognition programs.

For 25 years prior to joining MU Advancement, Deb owned a nationally known consulting firm specializing in training and development options for improving organizational performance. She also was a member of the faculty for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organization Management. Deb has published more than 100 articles on leadership and management.

“I believe that every member of our staff is a professional in his or her own right,” Deb says. “While the concept of talent management is an area of expertise, I do not manage people’s talent. I work to create an environment in which people can manage their own talent. When we are successful doing that, there are no limits to what we can achieve.”

Deb received a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Organizational Communication and Training from Mizzou. She is a Past President of the Mizzou Alumni Association and a former Tiger mascot. She considers herself incredibly fortunate to do what she loves for her alma mater.
