Biography

David Heller has previously served as global Chair of the firm's Finance Department and currently serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. He has represented senior and junior secured and unsecured lenders in workouts and bankruptcy proceedings for more than 30 years. He has also represented many high-profile private and public companies in connection with the restructuring of their financial obligations both in and out of judicial proceedings.

In 1997, Turnarounds & Workouts selected him as one of the "Top Ten Bankruptcy Attorneys in the Country" and noted that, "According to those in the Chicago area, he represents many of Chicago's banks and financial institutions and is reported to have saved them millions in loan losses in 1997." In 2000 and 2006, the publication again recognized Mr. Heller as one of the top 12 "outstanding" bankruptcy lawyers of those years, noting his work in several major cases.

Mr. Heller is consistently identified in Chambers Global, Who’s Who Legal, Leading Lawyers Network and Best Lawyers. In 2011, Mr. Heller was included on the K&A Restructuring Register, “a peer group listing of the top 67 attorneys and 33 financial advisors who practice in the restructuring, reorganization, insolvency and bankruptcy arenas in the United States.” In 2010, Mr. Heller was invited to become a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. In 2012, he was recognized as “one of the Top 30 pre-eminent insolvency lawyers in the country” by Best of the Best USA 2012 published by Legal Media Group.

Mr. Heller has spoken to many organizations, including the United States Bankruptcy Judges' Conference, the Commercial Finance Association, Wharton Restructuring Conference, Turnaround Management Association, Accountants, Bankers and Credit Managers' Association and Distressed Debt Investing Forum on subjects ranging from workout and debt restructuring strategies to the purchase, sale and value maximization of distressed debt securities and debt positions.

Northwestern University is a private institution founded in 1851 to serve the Northwest Territory, an area that now includes the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota. In 1853 the founders purchased a 379-acre tract of land on the shore of Lake Michigan 12 miles north of Chicago. They established a campus and developed the land near it, naming the surrounding town Evanston in honor of one of the University's founders, John Evans. After completing its first building, its first building in 1855, Northwestern began classes that fall with two faculty members and 10 students. Northwestern has three campuses and a total of 12 Schools and Colleges (one of which is located in South Florida. Two campuses are located on Lake Michigan, a 240-acre campus in Evanston, the first suburb north of Chicago, and a 25-acre campus in Chicago. One campus is located in Doha, Qatar. The College was formed in 1989 and has over 800 Fellows that are selected by a Board of Regents from among recommendations received from the Circuit Admissions Council in each federal judicial circuit. The Regents select those who meet the following standards: (i) the highest professional qualifications and ethical standards; (ii) the highest level of character, integrity, professional expertise and leadership which demonstrates the likelihood that they will continue to contribute to the enhancement of bankruptcy and insolvency scholarship, continuing education, and contributions to the improvement of the bankruptcy and insolvency processes; (iii) a commitment to fostering and furthering the objectives of the College; (iv) sustained evidence of scholarship, teaching, lecturing and distinguished published writings on bankruptcy practice or insolvency practice, procedure, philosophy, improvements and reforms which demonstrates a consistent contribution to the enhancement of bankruptcy and insolvency literature, education, practice and the overall improvement of the process.The mission of the College is to honor and recognize distinguished bankruptcy professionals who are qualified for membership in an effort to set standards of achievement for others in the insolvency community, and to fund and assist projects that enhance the highest quality of bankruptcy practice, including undergraduate and graduate programs related to bankruptcy and insolvency. Historically, the prestigious American College of Bankruptcy Induction Ceremony, a black tie event, has been held in early spring at the United States Supreme Court Great Hall, followed by a reception. Well known individuals who have addressed the Induction Ceremony include Supreme Court Justices, members of Congress, Department of Justice officials, White House staff members, academicians and appellate judges.
