San Domenico was founded in 1850 by the Dominican Sisters, whose foundational principles for education are study, reflection, community and service. Here, these values come to life every day. In fact, many of the buzzwords popular in education today have been a part of the Dominican tradition since the order was founded over 800 years ago. Mindfulness. Global-interconnection. Resiliency. Collaboration.

Marin Academy asks every individual to think, to question and to create. Its mission invites reflection and demands action, creating a vibrancy that captures attention and imagination. Both in the classroom and outside of it, students strive to make a difference and put their education to work in the world. A great school's power and promise comes from its ability to transform students. At Marin Academy, students are asked to participate in their own transformation. One of the hallmarks of a Marin Academy education is the attention to each individual. The Marin Academy carefully considers the best steps for each student, taking into account who they are and where they want to be. Each year, with more skills, knowledge, and experience, students become the architects of their own education. At the same time, they explore their role and responsibilities as members of a community that values participation and commitment. In their time at Marin Academy, students are activists, scholars, artists and athletes.
