Biography

Cromwell Montgomery is a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Century City office. He practices in the firm’s Corporate Department and is a member its Global Finance and Corporate Finance Practice Groups. He is a finance transactions lawyer and has been named since 2008 by Chambers USA as a Leading Lawyer in California for Banking and Finance and has been recognized by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Montgomery’s practice includes secured and unsecured credit transactions, debt capital markets offerings, pre-bankruptcy workouts, debtor-in-possession facilities and other debt financing transactions. Representative recent transactions include:

* A financial institution in various term loan and revolving credit (including asset based lending) facilities.
* A financial institution and miscellaneous studios and other lenders in senior, second lien and subordinated film financing matters.
* A corporate client in various senior and subordinated credit facilities in support of its venture investments.
* A gaming company in its various credit facilities.
* A homebuilder in its various bond issuances, credit facilities and mortgage repurchase facilities.
* A building supply and services company in its various bond issuances and credit facilities.
* Miscellaneous leveraged finance transactions for a variety of private equity clients.

Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Mr. Montgomery was an associate with Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, and a judicial law clerk for Judge Samuel L. Bufford in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Los Angeles. He received his law degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Montgomery graduated, cum laude, from the University of California Berkeley with an A.B. in Classics. He is admitted to practice in the State of California.

The University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, commonly referred to as Berkeley Law and Boalt Hall, is one of 14 schools and colleges at the University of California, Berkeley. Berkeley Law is consistently ranked as one of the top law schools in the nation, with acceptance rates lower than every school except Yale and Stanford. The Department of Jurisprudence was founded at Berkeley in 1894. In 1912, the department was renamed the School of Jurisprudence, which was then renamed the School of Law in 1950. The School was originally located in the center of the main UC Berkeley campus in the Boalt Memorial Hall of Law, built in 1911 with funds largely from Elizabeth Josselyn Boalt donated in memory of her late husband, John Henry Boalt. In 1951, the School moved to its current location in the new Boalt Hall, at the southeast corner of the campus, and the old Boalt Hall was renamed Durant Hall. In April 2008, the law school rebranded itself from "Boalt Hall" to "Berkeley Law", in order to more closely tie the law school's name with the campus upon which it resides. The administration hopes that this move will further increase the law school's prestige, since people will now associate it with the Berkeley campus.
