Biography

Charles (Chirag) Shah
Chief Financial Officer

Prior to joining ExpandED Schools, Charles worked for International Executive Service Corps (IESC) for more than 15 years, and at other agencies in various finance roles. He holds an MA in accounting from the University of Baroda in India, and has completed 60% of the credits for the graduate coursework in finance at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He grew up in India and moved to the United States more than 25 years ago, spending most of those years in Connecticut with his wife Sonal. During his free time, Charles enjoys traveling, and watching Bollywood movies/shows and international cricket matches.

The After-School Corporation (TASC) began in 1998 with 25 programs in New York City. It has served more than 250,000 children in New York and beyond by funding, monitoring, evaluating and supporting more than 320 after-school programs in public schools, including 269 programs that are still in operation. TASC has partnered with 146 community-based organizations since 1998, including neighborhood settlement houses and the YMCA. TASC programs receive additional support from 30 partnering colleges and cultural organizations. TASC began with a challenge grant from the Open Society Institute (OSI), which pledged $125 million, based on the condition that for every dollar OSI contributed, TASC was responsible for raising an additional three dollars. To date, TASC has leveraged more than $490 million in public and private funds. TASC's goal of sustaining after-school programs long after the OSI grant expires is now within reach, as the field of after-school has grown and flourished over the past decade.
