Biography

During his time at Gardner Denver, a manufacturer of industrial compressors, blowers, pumps, loading arms and fuel systems, Brian R. Lurie developed a global strategy that combined geographically scattered IT teams into a single entity. This included creating a single-instance enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and a Web and mobile game plan for the company’s new aftermarket initiatives. The subsequent growth led to private-equity firm KKR acquiring the company with its facilities and offices in 33 countries and revenues of almost $2.5 billion annually.

Previously, Lurie was senior vice president and CIO of Teleflex, a manufacturer of medical devices used in critical care and surgery procedures. Before Teleflex, Lurie served as vice president, information technology, at Stryker Orthopaedics, which designs, develops, manufactures and sells reconstructive, trauma and sports-medicine orthopedic products, He was a founding member of Stryker’s Business Technology Council, a cross-divisional Stryker entity.

Lurie was CIO for Penn Engineering and Manufacturing, managing an international IT staff in corporate, field and consultant positions before Stryker. From 1984 through 1994, he worked for the Unisys Corp.

Lurie has received many accolades including the CIO Leadership Networks 2008 Top 10 Leaders & Innovators Award and Premier 100—Computerworld magazine 2009. In 2011, he was profiled in “The Transformational CIO” by Hunter Muller and “The 11 Secrets of Highly Influential IT Leaders” by Marc J. Schiller. He was also featured in CIO Review magazine’s “Meet the CIO 2013.”

He sits on the panel for the Global Technology Confidence Indicators (GTCI), an executive research and analysis unit at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., and is a charter member of the Temple University Computer and Information Sciences Advisory Board.

Lurie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer and information sciences from Temple University and conducted postgraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University and Gallup’s Leadership Academy.
