Biography

Brian Buckley focuses his practice on the defense and prosecution of high-stakes commercial litigation, including the defense of shareholder and consumer class actions, securities litigation, and derivative/fiduciary breach actions. Brian also has extensive experience with trade secret and non-competition disputes and other employment-related matters, as well as various types of intellectual property and technology litigation, including trademark infringement, copyright infringement, and licensing disputes. Throughout his career, Brian has devoted substantial time to pro bono work, focusing in particular on issues affecting women, children, and the poor.

Brian received the Washington State Bar Association’s 2013 Pro Bono Award, for his “significant contribution to the legal profession, the justice system, and the public.” In 2008, Brian was named by Seattle Business Monthly as one of "Seattle's 87 Top Business Lawyers," and was recognized as one of the "40 Under 40" in Washington state by the Puget Sound Business Journal in 2006. He has also repeatedly been named a Washington Super Lawyer since 2003, as well as a "Rising Star" in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

For over 12 years, Brian has been a member of the Board of Directors of Wellspring Family Services, King County’s oldest human services organization, and served as Chairman from 2006 to 2008. He was also a member of United Way of King County's Early Learning Impact Council and Community Building Committee. Brian is a frequent judge and mentor at the University of Washington School of Law.

Prior to joining Fenwick & West, Brian was a litigation partner in the Seattle office of DLA Piper. He was the national co-chair for litigation associate training for DLA.Brian began his legal career at Seattle-based Foster Pepper.

* Collins v. Concur Technologies, et al. (King County, WA) Defended public company in putative shareholder derivative litigation. Case dismissed on initial motion based on shareholder’s failure to make demand on the board.

Pro Bono Work

* Jafar v. Webb (WA Supreme Court) Lead pro bono counsel in Washington Supreme Court appeal establishing that indigent litigants are entitled to a waiver of all court fees and charges, helping to ensure equal access to justice in Washington state.
