Ms. Nolan is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of The George Washington University. She joined GW in December 2007, after serving as a partner in the White Collar Group of Crowell & Moring LLP in Washington, D.C. Ms. Nolan was appointed by President Clinton as the first woman to serve as Counsel to the President of the United States (1999-2001). She also served in the Office of Legal Counsel, U.S. Department of Justice, as Deputy Assistant Attorney General (1996-1999) and as Attorney-Advisor (1981-1985), and in the White House as Associate Counsel to the President (1993-1995). She has served on the faculty of The George Washington Law School for over ten years, teaching courses in Constitutional Law, Professional Responsibility and Ethics, Government Ethics, and Government Lawyering. In addition, Ms. Nolan was a Fellow in the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government (2001), and a presidentially appointed Member of the National Commission on Judicial Discipline and Removal (1993). She clerked for the Honorable Collins J. Seitz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Ms. Nolan received her B.A. from Scripps College and her law degree magna cum laude from Georgetown in 1980, where she was Editor in Chief of the Law Journal. Ms. Nolan is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation of the National Capital Area, and the Board of Advisors of the Harvard Law & Policy Review. She was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America 2008 and Washington Super Lawyers 2008.
