Tiger Foundation was established in 1989 by Julian H. Robertson, Jr., Chairman of Tiger Management, LLC, a hedge fund based in New York City. Though Tiger Management closed its funds in 2000, Tiger Foundation lives on through the active engagement of former Tiger employees and colleagues who have remained committed to the cause, and through the participation of current members of the Tiger Management community. Who We Are Since inception, Tiger Foundation has pursued its mission of striving to break the cycle of poverty in New York City. Our approach leverages the analytical skills of our board members while equiping them with the experiences and knowledge needed to become active and engaged philanthropists. Tiger Foundation is dedicated to investing in nonprofit organizations in the five boroughs of New York City that maximize the social return on every contributed dollar. The foundation's obligation to its own donors is to ensure that the money it allocates is working to achieve measurable progress in the effort to break the cycle of poverty for low-income New Yorkers and their families. This is done in two ways: First, Tiger Foundation identifies those organizations that can demonstrate their effectiveness in helping individuals and families achieve progress on the path towards self-sufficiency. Through investments in our four portfolios: Education, Employment, Youth and Families, and Criminal Justice, the foundation works to strengthen those organizations that attack the root causes of poverty—not just its symptoms. We employ a rigorous due diligence process and we follow the ongoing performance of the foundation's commitments with a great degree of care—increasing funding when it makes sense, and discontinuing our investments when they aren't producing strong outcomes. Second, the foundation's trustees are actively and directly involved in the grantmaking process. They commit their time, financial resources, passion, and brainpower to help successful service providers improve their outcomes, build healthier organizations, and—ultimately—expand their work to help more New Yorkers achieve and maintain independent lives. Tiger grantees continually prove that when provided the right opportunities, people have the power, the ability, and the assets needed to achieve their goals. In the years ahead, Tiger Foundation will continue investing in programs providing such opportunities and working to produce measurable results in the fight against poverty
