Texas Christian University (TCU) is a private, coeducational university located in Fort Worth, Texas. The campus is located on 272 acres (1.10 km2) about three miles (8 km) from downtown Fort Worth. TCU is affiliated with, but not governed by, the Disciples of Christ. Its mascot is the "horned frog", and women's teams are known as the Lady Frogs. For most varsity sports TCU competes in the Big 12 conference of the NCAA's Division I. The university enrolls around 9,725 students, with 8,456 being undergraduates. In 1943, the Southwestern Medical Foundation established Southwestern Medical College and helped to nurture its growth from a fledgling medical school into one of the preeminent medical research and academic centers in the world.
