The California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (CAHHS) is the original hospital association, established in 1935. It works to serve member hospitals in conjunction with CHA. CAHHS also is the parent corporation for Health Property Associates and California Hospitals Investments and Publications, Inc. A 12-member board of trustees oversees the management and financial operations of CAHHS. CAHHS also operates the Volunteer Services Department and the Unemployment Insurance Division. Additionally, many member hospitals participate in the malpractice liability products offered through CalOptima, the CAHHS-endorsed risk-retention group of CAHHS members.
