The Energy Project energizes people and transforms companies, offering a detailed blueprint for fueling a fully engaged workforce. Drawing on the multidisciplinary science of high performance, we do this at three levels: We train people to perform sustainably at the highest levels by more skillfully managing their energy across four dimensions: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual to develop actionable strategies that help them to become more energized, focused and productive. We teach leaders to become Chief Energy Officers, who mobilize, inspire, focus, direct and regularly recharge the energy of those they lead. We partner with companies to help them better meet the core needs of their employees, so they’re freed, fueled and inspired to bring the best of themselves to work every day. Demand is exceeding our capacity. Time is the resource we’ve traditionally relied on to get more done. The problem with time is that it’s finite, and most of us no longer have additional hours left to invest at work. Energy, by contrast, can be expanded and regularly renewed. Drawing on the multidisciplinary science of high performance, The Energy Project has developed a set of simple principles and highly actionable practices for more effectively managing energy to drive higher levels of engagement, productivity, and innovation. Our clients range from companies such as Google, Coca Cola, Target, Sony, Ernst & Young, and Pfizer to organizations such as the Los Angeles Police Department, the Cleveland Clinic, Kipp Schools and many others.

AARP Uncertainty is the new normal. Americans age 50 and over face choices and pressures unlike those of any other age group — choices no one could have prepared for. Older workers suffer the largest increase in long-term unemployment, the longest spells of joblessness and the least likelihood of finding jobs. Many are living paycheck to paycheck, and one in four workers has burned through his or her savings. Having worked hard, paid taxes and served their country and communities, they find themselves in circumstances far beyond what they could have prepared for. Many of them are one step short of economic catastrophe. Those who are 50 and over and struggling need a voice and an advocate now more than ever. AARP Foundation — a charitable affiliate of AARP — serves that purpose. Building on AARP's reputation and expertise, AARP Foundation has the ability to support and work with local organizations and programs nationwide to coordinate, fill in the gaps and help effective initiatives grow. This multiplier effect ensures we don't duplicate resources or reinvent the wheel. By 2030, one in every five Americans will be age 65 or older. Let's not wait until poverty becomes a way of life they can never escape. Through the programs of AARP Foundation, we can give struggling Americans 50 and over a chance to recover their confidence, regain a foothold and stay on track. The more we do now, the less we'll have to do later.

The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and in 22 U.S. cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.

Truly a university without boundaries, Western Governors University is a nonprofit online university founded and supported by 19 U.S. governors. At no other time in the history of higher education have the governors of several states joined together to create a university. The idea for WGU was born in 1995 at a bipartisan meeting of the Western Governors Association (hence our "western" name). Going into the meeting, the chair of the association—Utah governor Mike Leavitt—had the foresight to realize that distance learning technologies had the power to tackle one of the western states’ most pressing problems: rapid population growth confronted by limited public funds for educational services. The governors decided then and there to create their own university. They agreed that this new university would make maximum use of distance learning technologies, would be collaborative among the western member states, and would use competencies rather than seat time as the measure of its outcomes. Designing an Online University To do this, the governors enlisted the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) and the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS) to help design the newly envisioned university. Five themes remained central to the effort: Responsiveness to employment and societal needs. A focus on competency-based education. Expanding access. Cost-effectiveness. Development of a technology infrastructure. WGU was chartered in 1996, was incorporated as a private, nonprofit university in 1997, and began accepting students in 1999. An Online University with a Mission WGU is very mission driven. Created to expand access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs, WGU’s mission has remained one of helping hardworking adults meet their educational goals and improve their career opportunities. To fulfill the mission, the founding governors also insisted that WGU be affordable, flexible, and student-focused. Hence, WGU strives to serve as many students as possible—including minorities, first-generation college students, those with modest incomes, and others whose lives or geographic locations do not allow them to attend traditional, campus-based colleges. WGU has flourished into a national university, serving more than 38,000 students from all 50 states, yet remains non-bureaucratic and innovative. It continues to receive praise for its academic model and to enhance its reputation with employers for the emphasis on graduating highly competent professionals. Additional Information The Myths about Online Learning Even though online learning is growing dramatically and becoming more and more accepted among employers and academia, there are still opinions—really, myths—about online education that linger in some people’s minds
