The firm's capital is generally used to provide full or partial liquidity to entrepreneurs, family members, estates, passive investors or corporate owners. They also consider minority growth-oriented investments. Alpine Investors seeks to invest in companies that have demonstrated consistent historical growth. The firm's objective is to partner with management teams to help continue that growth and identify ways to accelerate it. They target companies with continuing management teams and cash flow of $2 million to $20 million. For companies with management teams that are transitioning out, companies should have cash flow of $2 million to $10 million. Alpine Investors looks for companies with: (1) stable or recurring revenue (2) identifiable growth opportunities (3) sustainable margins (4) high returns on invested capital and (5) significant barriers to entry. They prefer to invest in simple, understandable businesses that operate in non-cyclical industries. Though not limited to investments in any particular sector, Alpine Investors has a particular interest in the following sectors: (1) alarm monitoring (2) ATM operators (3) consumer products (4) consumer finance (5) direct marketing (6) document storage and management (7) for-profit education and training (8) gaming equipment and services (9) insurance brokers (10) niche software (11) professional employer organizations (PEOs) (12) specialty retailers and (13) wealth management.Alpine Investors seeks to structure deals that meet all parties' objectives. The firm's prior deals have included compensation in the form of cash, earn-outs, seller notes, equity rollovers and profit sharing. Transaction structures have included majority and minority investments in the form of asset purchases, stock purchases and recapitalizations. Alpine Investors has particular expertise in creating investment structures that minimize taxes and align the incentives of owners, managers and employees.
