On a gloriously sunny spring Sunday earlier this month, all of New York simultaneously decided to go out and eat lunch. In the West Village, customers thronged outside an upscale restaurant, waiting for their takeout. In my neighborhood, an Italian spot on Broadway set up a full bar on the sidewalk. People stood within two feet of each other, talking and laughing. The bartender had a mask around his neck, corona-casual style, like a fashion...
