Why we are in love with poetry again

It's official: poetry is more popular than cricket. It was recently reported that, in any given year, more adults in England wrote a poem than played in a cricket match. I was reminded of this quirky statistic yesterday when new figures showed that sales of poetry books were up 42 per cent since 2013, rising 12 per cent in 2018. While sales of literary fiction continue to slide, this often sidelined art form is flourishing - and it's young people who are driving this change.
