Watchdog alarm over competition in cement tie-up

THE competition regulator today warned construction materials group Breedon's swoop for a number of cement giant Cemex's sites has raised concerns.

The Competition and Markets Authority said a phase one investigation into the £178 million January deal gives rise to competition concerns in relation to the supply of ready-mixed concrete, aggregates or asphalt in 15 local markets across the UK where the two companies dominate with few rivals.
