'Towns should have at least one bank'
ScottiSh Political Editor BANKS should be prevented by the Government from leaving towns without any branches, according to a Commons inquiry published today.
The Scottish Affairs Committee urged the Treasury to seek a "commitment" from the major banks that they will not shut "the last bank in town." If they refuse, the committee said ministers must consider legislating to prevent further closures and ensure communities have access to essential banking services.
